Family Radio's School of the Bible
Over 30,000 students have been enrolled in the Family Radio School of the Bible (FRSB), which was established in 1981 by Dr. Gabriel Otero and the Family Radio Board of Directors. The purpose of FRSB is to train lay ministers and promote Bible study through FREE (Matthew 10:8) correspondence courses and programs. We embrace the principle found in II Timothy 2:1-2..."Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."
Some of the courses and programs of study are as follows:
Religious Education Degree
Students may earn an Associate of Religious Education Degree, which includes...
- Study of Old and New Testament surveys.
- Practical Biblical Theology.
- Theology.
- Surveys of specific books of the Bible (Mark, Galatians, I Corinthians, Romans).
- Bible study methods.
- Old Testament Hebrew.
- New Testament Greek.
The associate degree is a two-year program.
Bible Certificate Program
The Bible Certificate program, which includes many of the associate degree courses, can be completed in one year.
Spiritual Enrichment Program
The Spiritual Enrichment Program is for students who desire to research a specific area of Biblical exegesis. Students in this program study one or more courses and may later transfer the credits to the certificate or degree programs.
Courses Offered in the Spanish Language
In 1986, the Lord provided FRSB an opportunity to offer correspondence courses in the Spanish language. Some courses formerly offered only in English were translated into and made available in Spanish. Studies of the books of James, Genesis, and Acts have proven to be a blessing to over 800 students in Central and South America, from Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, French Guyana, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama and Belize. The School Reaches Around the World
Hundreds of students are enrolled from the African continent, including some who live in Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Benin, Cameroon, Tanzania, Zambia, Angola and Zimbabwe. More than 3,000 Nigerian students are enrolled in the FRSB.Prison Ministry
Our outreach to prisoners continues to grow as the Lord blesses this ministry. Prison chaplains in California, Arizona, Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey have added FRSB courses to their ministries. Students frequently write to say they used to have free time with little to do, but FRSB has provided them with a spiritually encouraging time of study and worship through the correspondence courses. The Faculty and Staff
Dean of Studies Dr. Gabriel Otero, and his wife, Raquel Otero, Spanish Language instructor, said that FRSB "has been a blessing." Each of them has over 20 years of service with Family Radio.
Other staff includes Christina Prater, Olimpia Urizar, Hanumanth Sumanth, Carol Whitmire, Gaspar Triassi, Enrique Triassi, Tom Schaff, Daniel Lacy, Sarah Espinoza, German Ruiz, Debbie Ruiz and Barbara Ritchey.
